Commission 2006

In 2006 Melbourne Art Foundation commissioned New Zealand artist Michael Parekowhai to create Cosmo, an 8 x 5 metre monumental inflatable rabbit sculpture.

Positioned under the dome of the Royal Exhibition Building during the Fair, the Foundation subsequently gifted the work to the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.

    Cosmo

    Michael Parekowhai

Michael Parekowhai's Cosmo is caught in the headlights or perhaps he's looking down the barrel of a shotgun. Either way, he's running scared. He seems to be the underdog, but don't be fooled by his cute exterior.
