The Melbourne Art Foundation Awards for the Visual Arts are a celebration of innovation and excellence.

The Foundation Awards are an acknowledgment of the contribution made by artists and leaders in the Australian visual arts sector.

Held biennially, two awards are given by the Foundation under the categories of Artist and Visionary.

The Award recipients are nominated by the Melbourne Art Foundation Board and selected with an independent convener. Nominees include artists, curators, industry leaders, philanthropists and writers on art.

Celebrated over a sumptuous dinner the evening includes presentations by art world luminaries about each recipient and the awarding of the sculpture VIP especially created by artist Marea Gazzard for the Awards.

Artist Award recognises outstanding achievement and impact on Australian contemporary art practice, by an artist who has created a significant body of work.

Visionary Award recognises an outstanding contribution and unwavering commitment to promotion of contemporary Australian art nationally and beyond.
